From 2012-2017, DCAP’s Spay Day program, utilizing clinic facilities at Dallas Animal Services, provided more than 10,000 free and low-cost surgeries to pets of Dallas residents and hundreds of free surgeries to the City of Dallas Animal Services for shelter pets.
Nonetheless, despite the recommendations of the BCG report commissioned by the Animal Shelter Commission and endorsed by City leaders, Dallas Animal Services has notified us that no DCAP-sponsored Spay Day clinics may be scheduled at the DAS facility after February 26th because of the lack of a detailed, written contract. Sadly, this decision, announced by DAS management late today, has forced us to cancel seventy-seven surgery appointments and all events for March.
Our apologies to everyone affected by this decision – our supporters, our volunteers, and particularly those responsible pet owners who love their pets and believe in the importance of spaying and neutering.
We have worked hand in hand with Dallas Animal Services for many years, providing free and low-cost services for Dallas residents, community outreach, financial assistance for animals and operations, made possible DAS new volunteer program. Hopefully, this will only be a temporary setback for DCAP, for spay/neuter and Dallas residents.
